When is the Best Time of Year to get Tattooed?

15.04.2018 — Storyville

A lot of people have asked me over the years ‘when is the best time of year to get tattooed’? It’s a great question and might be counter intuitive – or at least counter to the common approach. Most tattoo artists will tell you that the spring and summer are the busy times of year as everyone wants to have their tattoo ready for the summer. Truth be told summer really isn’t the ideal time of year and in fact the best time of year to get tattooed is…. right now! The winter and spring covers the ideal time for some very simple reasons.

Pro Tips

The last thing you want to do with a new tattoo is expose it to direct sunlight. You also really want to avoid chlorinated pools, seawater and the beach. That means that it is probably not the best idea to get tattooed by one eyed Willy in Magaluf.

What you do want is to keep your new tattoo shielded from direct sunlight for at least the first couple of weeks. A month is even better if you can make it fit your schedule. Once your tattoo has healed you should use sunblock on it as this will keep it looking good for as long as possible. Planning ahead and getting your tattoo in the winter means you’ll be healed and ready to hit the beaches when the sun comes out!

Of course I’m not suggesting that you shouldn’t get tattooed in the summer. Truth be told, any time of year is great to get tattooed but it might be worth considering the colder months!

Of course as always if you have any questions then please do get in touch and we’ll help in any way we can. In the mean time here’s studio owner Nick Horn explaining it all in this video:
